Luis Alfonzo artist photo

Luis F. Alfonzo is a visual artist born in Caracas, Venezuela, now residing in Connecticut. His art education began at the Educational Center for the Arts in New Haven, followed by study at the University of Connecticut, where he explored digital media alongside traditional painting and printmaking.

A structural engineer by profession and a painter by instinct, Alfonzo brings an engineer's precision to canvases built on obsessive, patient rendering — work that insists on being counted, one detail at a time. He is developing two bodies of work: a series connecting his background in bridge design with his visual practice, and Inside Out, an ongoing series of surrealist realist paintings exploring sanity and mental health through symbolic containers, maritime imagery, and watchful birds. Drawing on his Venezuelan heritage, this work merges personal memory with political urgency, rendered with the same exacting care he brings to engineering.

His work has been exhibited with both organizations, the Center for Contemporary Printmaking, and Arch Enemy Arts, and is upcoming at the NBMAA's Nor'Easter 56th Annual Juried Exhibition. Inside Out — Tomato Soup was acquired for the New Haven Paint & Clay Club's permanent collection, and his work received an Honorable Mention at CAFA's 115th Annual Juried Exhibition.

Luis holds active membership at the New Haven Paint & Clay Club, and at the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts as an Associate Member.
