Icterus Icterus
2019 - 30”x40”
Acrylics on museum-wrapped canvas
(Private Collection)
Sketches for this painting began around January 2018. Paint wasn’t laid down until about September of that year, and the painting wasn’t finished until June of 2019. This timeframe shows how long it can take me to start and finish a piece.
There is plenty of history behind this painting, and this caption will be revised, but for now:
The large succulent-shaped skull has the national bird of Venezuela (the Venezuelan Troupial) in its eye socket. It is the first in a commemorative series about my experience as a Venezuelan in the U.S.
