Sketchtober 2023
Artist and Illustrator Jake Parker started “Inktober” in 2009. He created the challenge to make one sketch a day for the whole month of October. A yearly, official prompt is published, and artists all over the world sketch their interpretations and posting them daily on social media. It was a way to get the creative juices flowing. Over the years, the tradition has spread over different mediums, and different, unofficial prompts are created and followed.
I’ve never had the chance to participate before, so this year I decided to sketch out ideas for my Inside Out series, following my own prompt list. I was able to finish the first three weeks-worth on time, but the last week and change I straggled a day or two behind. I was able to get the initial sketches down, but finding the time to wrap up the paintings was difficult.
This series consists of 3”x3” paintings (ink and watercolor, acrylics, oils or mixed) on 400lb, cold-pressed watercolor paper.
Some were cut to 4”x"4” with 1/2” borders, every 5th day was full-bleed (3”x3”).
