El Ávila con Café is a painting of the iconic mountain range north of the city of Caracas, in Venezuela. This is the city where I was born.
The title points to the name of the mountain, and to the time of day reflected here: If you’re looking at this mountain from the south, the sun would be rising from the right. You would be enjoying your coffee, still.

A lot of Venezuelan artists paint this mountain, and I wanted to paint it in my own style.

This painting is one of a series I want to come back to—one that speaks to my background, and how it’s influence has affected me.
